unable to fully boot after CPU Upgrade
« on: August 20, 2021, 07:52:47 pm »
Hello to the Forum, I have a problem, of course!
Earlier this week, I upgraded my Ryzen 5 from a 2600 to a 5000 series (5600x) , see spec below. All went ok except that it won't boot up when started, all fans run including the GPU and the red LED CPU error light is flashing.
Could this be the battery, or are there any other reasons this is happening?
Thanks for your help

PC Spec.
Gigabyte Aorus X470 Ultra Gaming.
Gigabyte RTX 2060 OC
Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4
EVGA 650bq 80+ Bronze
Crucial Pi !TB SSD (2000)mb/s)

PS Does anyone know why the X470 is unavailable?

Probably a stupid question but, you did update the BIOS to latest version before installing the CPU?
You need BIOS version F60 pr above for the 5600X processor.

Hi Not quite a stupid question, in fact, no I didn't had it all ready and was going to update when it booted up? I couldn't find details, there isn't a Flash button on my board, could you point me somewhere?
Thanks

If you have your original 2600 CPU then the best thing to do is put that back into the board, then update the BIOS using QFlash.

Once you have updated the BIOS then shutdown and refit the new 5600X CPU and everything should then work OK.

I would probably update to the latest BIOS version F61 ( https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/X470-AORUS-ULTRA-GAMING-rev-10/support#support-dl-bios )

Instructions for updating the BIOS using QFlash can be found in the motherboard manual: https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/X470-AORUS-ULTRA-GAMING-rev-10/support#support-manual that you can download via this link.

Hi, sorry for delah, ran out of Thermal paste?
Anyway, managed to boot up with the 2600, downloaded latest Bios version F61. Booted PC as per manual, but received the following error message from the Q Flash Manager...
                           INVALID BIOS IMAGE
As this Bios referred to 5000 series G, I tried the earlier one? but got the same message

I guess there must be an earlier one to flash?

Oops, sorry, my mistake. You are correct, to get to the BIOS version that you need for the new CPU you will have to update the BIOS several times.

You will need to update first to BIOS version F31

Then you have to install the EC FW Update tool. Download this from the utility section for your motherboard here: https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/X470-AORUS-ULTRA-GAMING-rev-10/support#support-dl-utility
You need to install this update through the OS not in BIOS

After installing the EC FW Update tool you can flash BIOS to F40

Then you can update to the F61.

It's a bit of a pain and I had forgotten that I had to undertake this process myself on a previous occasion when I first replied. I should have checked through the BIOS list properly, as it does explain it. Hopefully now, you can get the new processor up and running.

Wait until after you have updated to the latest BIOS version (F61).
I would boot the system, with BIOS F61, using the old CPU at least once, just to make sure everything is OK before shutting down and installing the new CPU. It's a bit of a faff, I know, but worth taking the extra time to make sure it is all ok. Also, the 5600X won't work properly until you have updated to F60 or F61.

:( Unfortunately I’m getting the  ‘ Invalid Bios Image’ when loading the F40 update? Completed the F31 ok, and the EC FW Update, tried downloading it twice?

err.. not sure why you're getting that issue Jim. Try downloading and installing the F41 BIOS instead of the F40.

Firstly, a very big thanks for your time on this and I’m sorry it doesn’t seem to be working out……..
I’m not able to do much this morning, but thought I’d let you know that F41 didn’t work either, in fact, when I pressed the DEL key at POST the PC froze,!? (With the USB fitted) I shut down removed the USB and booted up again, and attempted getting back to the BIOS page but it froze again. Is it possible to roll back the EC FW update to reinstall?
Thanks again, get back to you this after
Jim
