Right...if you want it I can email it...or I think I can upload it...what's a good place to upload it?

just google for "free file hosting servers", you'll find plenty of them

Running out of ideas here bob. I suggest putting in a new battery if you  have a spare as you say it keeps losing the settings. What BIOS do you have now  FC1? If so get hold of FC2 and try reflashing with that and clear the DMI again when you do the flash.

I tried flashing back to FA

Back to the original problem of 4Gb out of 6Gb visible but it boots properly even without flash drive present

Please dont say its bent pins because on the 3rd attempt at spotting bent pins I did bend some pins but Gigabyte Service centre repaired them for me, so it is the BIOS

FB,FB11,FB16 and FC1 all cause other problems but 6Gb is always visible. From cold boot to BSOD , BIOS settings changing etc etc

I have tried all suggestions, and I am tottally dumfounded now.

I think it may be time to try the Manchester Screwdriver repair method and go back to using my Q6600 and 680i board until i can afford to waste another £150 quid on a motherboard that just doesnt want to play.

As you say it does always seem to lead back to the BIOS. maybe they will write a BIOS update soon that will cover all these problems. :-\

This sounds like an all too familiar story to me. FA cold boots fine, but does not enable all memory. FB, FB11, FB18,  FC1, FC2 all result in BSOD on cold boots. I too suspect the bios. I have just RMA'd my board and RAM back to the supplier and will let them work it out. I now have to wait another 10 working days  ??? I suggest you RMA the board back.

I am inclined to agree with FunkyErn on this. I think that you either have to wait for another BIOS update or arrange to RMA the board. :-\

fatbobuk - I just posted the following on another thread...

"...after packing up the motherboard last night and discovering the scratch/dent on the processor IHS from the defective Intel cooler, I had another look at the processor this morning. Looking at the underside of the processor, one thing sprung out and struck me, most of the copper pads had marks pretty much dead centre from the pins, however one entire quadrant of the pads, all had marks close to or on the edges of the pads, some of them possibly even off the pads. Plus there were about 5 pads with no marks on them at all. This has got me thinking there might be an issue with the 1366 sockets. If the pins are not correctly aligned with the processor or move around when heated up, this might explain the issues some of us are having..."

If you still have the stomach for it I would suggest lifting out the processor again - but leaving those blasted pins alone (I also ended up bending one) - and looking very carefully at the marks on the copper pads on the underside of the processor (avoiding touching them as well). They all should pretty much be centred on the pads - if one has previously reseated the processor then there will probably be multiple marks.

Dark Mantis comment on another thread got me thinking we need to consider all elements in the chain: processor (as memory controller on it), socket (those damn pins), cooler (consistent pressure applied and not flexing anything), DIMM pins/slots, RAM DIMMs, PSU and the thing that ties it all together the BIOS. It is an absolutely minefield putting these things together and tracking these down.

Gigabyte service center said to return Board + CPU + Ram to them for testing ?
May be the only choice I have left other than to buy another Mobo
