Hi Cookiebun,

if you are updating BIOS I would advise that you go for the newest version FD. It should include the previous updates too so you don't need to worry.  ;)

CURSES! DM beat me again!

Not too sure what info you are looking for in BIOS but Voltages and CPU speed can be found under the M.I.T. section of BIOS

Hi absic115 it was just to find out if the update went ok because Blackbox 2 doesn't appear to work properly it gives the readings  posted and then next time it goes back to the 803mhz, but i used another prog and it is bios FD i installed.

If you are looking for something that will give you information about your CPU, Motherboard, RAM etc., then CPUZ is pretty good. If you haven't got it you can download it from here: http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z/versions-history.html

Here are a couple of images to show what I mean.

I expect it is the AMD version of Intel's EIST Speedstep that is kicking in as soon as the processor has finished booting. If I am right it will rise again when you put it under load. I think it's called "Cool and Quiet" on the AMD platform.

Well let's hope I am right. I would suggest waiting for absic to confirm that though as this is his domain and he knows a lot more about the AMD platform than I do.

Hi Cookiebun,

Got to say that it does seem as if it is the Cool & Quiet technology kicking in but, without knowing what settings you have altered in BIOS or if you are running any of the Gigabyte Energy Saving Software, it is hard to confirm that this is the case.

If you want your CPU to always run at full speed you can disable the AMD K8 Cool&Quiet control in BIOS under the Advanced BIOS Features.

Hi absic115 the only thing i done is after updating the bios is go back in to the bios and load optimised defaults and then save and exit, but i will have a look at what you said and no i am not running the energy sofware.

In that case it is probably just the Cool&Quiet technology kicking in. If everything is running OK, when you are actually using the PC then you have nothing to worry about but, you can safely disable the Cool&Quiet feature in BIOS if you are not happy.

Hi absic115 I went in and cool & quiet was set at auto so i disabled it and so far it shows them all running at 3.4mhz approx, thanks again hopefully I will give you both a rest for a little while.
regards and thanks again to you both the help and advice was very much appreciated.
