GA-890GPA-UD3H New Build - No Video
« on: November 19, 2010, 08:31:50 pm »
I am upgrading an older MSI based system to the GA-890GPA-UD3H (details in sig). Old system worked fine. Only new components are the MB and the memory.

At present I have the MB on a piece of cardboard outside of the case.

Only 2 power connectors, front panel stuff, USB keyboard and mouse - and the video card connected. One 4 GB memory module in slot 1 (closest to CPU).

System powers up (power LED lit, CPU fan spins - but NO video signal (using DVI on GTS-250 video card).

I tried an older video card - same results. Same results when I try the internal video connector or the second PCI-E slot.

Am I missing something? Suggestions?

Or do I have a defective MB?

Thanks!

Hi there,

Simple questions first....
Have you connected a motherboard speaker?
If yes, what POST Beep(s) are you hearing?

Thanks for the quick reply.

Speaker connected (front panel stuff) - NO beeps - NO POST - nothing but CPU fan and power led.

OK so no help there then,

Well I guess the best thing to do is remove everything but the CPU and CPU Cooler, check that the 24 Pin ATX and 8 Pin ATX 12V connectors are properly attached to the motherboard and try and power up. Also remove the mouse and keyboard at this stage.

If you do that do you now get some sort of noise from the motherboard speaker?

I removed the keyboard and mouse.

Perhaps I have not been listening as well as I should have. I get what sounds like 1 beep from the speaker (maybe I never have heard the speaker before - it is sort of like a growl - not a crisp beep like I thought I was hearing in the past - but then again - I am loosing my hearing (joke)).

I reconnected the mouse and keyboard - I DO get the same beep (OK growl).

If I am hearing a beep (think I am) then that means the MB booted and should now be doing POST? Of course no video means something else must be wrong. My display was OK with my last system but something could have gone wrong.

Like I mentioned I have tried 2 different video cards, the internal video, and both PCI-E slots. The only thing left is the display itself? (I have no other display I can try so can not eliminate that).

Your suggestions are appreciated! Thanks!

Well, can you connect your monitor via the D-Sub rather than the DVI connector?

Also make sure the GPU is in the correct slot and has power to it.

Hunted up my old D-Sub port cable - same results.

I am pretty sure that I am looking for an RMA.

Trying multiple video cards, multiple slots, multiple cable types, etc.

The old thing I can not verify is my display itself (no duplicate display to try).

Thanks guys - we gave it our best try. I will ask for a RMA from Newegg and go back to my old MSI motherboard.
