EX58-UD3R Rev 1.6 No POST at all
« on: December 30, 2010, 10:25:25 pm »
I just bought this motherboard along with an Intel i7 950 3.06ghz. I also have 6gb or patriot ram. I cannot get the damn thing to POST at all. Straight out of the box and put it in the case with all the ram, CPU and video card. Couldn't get it to POST. I pulled everything off the board except for the CPU (after I reseated it). So just the CPU on the board I can't even get it to post. All the fans come on, led's, but no post beeps. Can someone help? I do not know what bios it has since I cannot get anything on the screen because nothing happens after I power it on.

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

Sounds like you need some help.

OK, so what PSU do you have powering it all, make/model please?

Have you connected the 12V 8 pin plug near the CPU from the PSU?

Here is a rundown of all the hardware in the PC

Proc: Intel core i7-950 LGA 1366 3.06Ghz 8MB cache 130W
Ram: 6GB (3 x 2GB) Viper II Sector 7 DDR3 PC3-12800  1600MHz
Video Card: Asus ENGTX470
PSU: Corsair TX850W

I have both the 2x12 and the 2x4 plugged into the board.

Currently I do not have anything plugged into the board minus the Processor and it's cooler.

In that case I would  make sure that you observe anti-static precautions and follow the instructions below.

Lay some cardboard or use the motherboard box that is non-conductive on the worktop and remove the motherboard/CPU/heatsink/fan/buzzer/one stick of memory and PSU from the case and put it on the cardboard.

Add the keyboard and now I know you haven't got any graphics but try and boot.

The system should try and then fail emitting a series of beeps. Please post what sounds it makes.

I did what you said and it does the same thing. One thing I need to mention is that when I plug both the 2x4 connector in along with the 2x12 the power comes on and gooes off within a second and repeats over and over. If i unplug the 2x4 plug it stays on, but no beeps at all.I think the board is fried.

Well based on past experience I think we should check for bent pins on the CPU socket.

Very carefully remove the heatsink and fan. Probably a slight twisting motion is best to release the two as the thermal paste can act like a glue.

Once off remove the CPU taking extreme care both physically and electrically(static) and place somewhere safe.

Make sure that the lighting is very good and even.

Now scrutinise the socket for any pins that are out of alignment, even slightly.
If in any doubt whatsoever take a couple of macro (close up) photos of the socket and post them on here for us to check.

Also look at the bottom of the CPU at the lands (little copper circles) and make sure that there is a mark in each somewhere near the centre.
If there are any missing marks or any of the pins are obviously bent then that is your problem.

Yes that is often the way. You can of course confirm it by checking the lands on the bottom of the CPU. ;)

Well I put it under a magnifying glass and tried to straighten it out with a needle and the f***ing tip of the pin broke off. I have a nice frisbee now.

It may be ok now, with the tip gone the land may make proper contact now.

Try booting and see, if it fails to boot or you have missing memory you will need to RMA the board.

Yes certainly worth trying it anyway. It might just work fine as Lsd says. If not try RMAing it but be ready forthe usual rejoinder of you must have damaged it yourself. Often it is customer carelessness but not always as some do arrive damaged from the retailer/manufacturer.  ;)
