GA-P67A-UD7: Hangs, Reboots etc.

Hi all,

Just installed my new computer based on a Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD7 and a i7-2600K.

I updated bios to F7A (also tried F6), but I have many annoying problems I hope you can help me with.

1. When starting windows it randomly boots.

2. Often when it boots it halts on code 50.

3. When I manage to enter Windows, I typically get BSOD...



Now after it rebooted, I got this (restoring bios from backup)...



So now it's back on F3.

I've tried reinstall windows - no good.

I have not messed around with any settings in BIOS - just loaded default values.

Is the board defect or am I doing something wrong??

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

From your description of the fault it sounds as if the BIOS is corrupt. You will need to download and run the new version of @BIOS from the Gigabyte website. When you have done that you should be able to use it to run the latest BIOS update ok.

I would suggest that you load the Optimised BIOS Defaults when you have run the update.

It wouldn't hurt to check your memory modules afterwards to make sure there is no problems with that too.

Memtest86+        http://www.memtest.org/

Insert one stick of memory in slot 1 and run Memtest on it for at least 10 loops and if there are no errors then swap it over with the next one and continue untill you have checked all  modules.

If you have any errors the module is faulty.

If you have any faulty modules you will have to return the whole kit as they are matched.

Post back when you have done that with the results.

Thank you for answering my thread.

I've tried with my "old" Corsair Memory and some brand new Kingston modules.

Well when I finally managed to enter windows, I updated BIOS to F7A, rebooted the Pc, entered the bios, loaded the optimized values, changed full screen logo to disabled, saved the bios ... and when it came back, it rebooted it self a couple of times and then came the black "Main bios checksum error".

I will try testing the memory modules during the night.

There is a known BIOS update problem with the P67 boards but this normally cures it ok and afterwards you can go back to using QFlash as per normal recommendations. Let us know how Memtest reports.

Ok I put in the brand new Kingston modules and ran memtest .... but memtest freezes...

I'm on bios F6 and getting Stop 0x00000124 all the time.

Now when I rebooted I got the "Main bios checksum...." so now it put me back on F3.

Damn I neve had so much fuzz with a mobo before.

That was what I was talking about a couple of posts ago if you check above. Trouble is these motherboards are so new that all my knowledge of them is from the manual as I haven't had a chance to play with them. Personally I would strip the build back to basics outside the case and then clear the CMOS and load a new BIOS with Optimised BIOS Defaults and take it from there.

You don't say what memory modules you have exactly so I don't know if they should be compatible or not. Also did you try to boot memtest with just one module in the white slot nearest the  CPU?

I've ordered these ram, but they are not released yet here:
KHX2133C9AD3X2K2/4GX

So I've tested with two of my "old" Corsair TR36G2000C8GT and with a couple of brand new Kingston KHX1600C9AD3/2G (reseller told me these should work fine with the mobo).

Ok I tried on Bios F3 .... shut down the Pc, clear the cmos, load default values, put a single Kingston in the slot nearest the CPU and then run Memtest .... it still freezes. When putting a single Corsair in slot1, the computer will not start at all.

I'm so lost here.

The Kingston I use is Genesis, so they are "build" for Sandy Bridge.

If I install the Kingston modules (they are 1600MHz), Bios say memory runs at 1330 MHz ... even with my Corsair which are 2000Mhz, it still says 1330 ... I dunno if this is correct (I'm a newbee at overclocking)...

Don't try an doverclock the memory at this stage as it is different on these boards and you already have enough problems. Just run it at 1333 Mhz. They must be non ECC and be installed in the DDR3_1 and DDR3_3 slots.

Hey people,

personally I cannot make any statement regarding memory stability.
I've got  G-Skill Ripjaws @1600 running (XMP Profile1) fine with Performance Enhance (or similar) set to Standard, since the modules will not work in Turbo mode.

For what the BIOS resetting is concerned I noticed that whenever I use the reset button (regardless whether the one on-board or the case's) the BIOS will get reset. Maybe this is just a software bug or such, but in case of Blue Screens it is really annoying. It would be nice if this could be fixed.

I would hazard a guess that what is happening is that when it BSOD or you use the reset button the Backup BIOS is being written to the Main BIOS and that is why you lose all your settings.
