Looks like something is wrong with the SATA controller causing it to fail over time. Any word on Gigabyte boards having the issue?

This is completely new to everyone I think and I am sure Intel isn't pleased about being $300M out of pocket.

As far as I know it will affect all motherboard manufacturers the same.

I doubt it.
Still no definite signs of a release date for that particular CPU yet!
And only some very faint signs of AM3+ Motherboards..... another 4-6 months is my best guess and by that time this Intel problem will be just a distant memory.

Wow... I was going to start ordering my parts for my new Sandy Bridge PC today.  Good thing my tendency to over scrutinize delayed my purchases.  I feel for everyone who adopted early, though.  This sucks big time.

I've read some reports saying only SATA ports 2-5 are affected and ports 0 and 1 are okay. Hopefully we get some official word from Gigabyte in the coming days.

Here's a write up on the issue. Supposedly as long as you stay off the 3Gbps ports and use the 6Gbps ports you should not encounter the failure.

Just read this on Tom's Hardware.

Bummer indeed. I've had the UD3 board for more than 2 weeeks now and have had no issues. I use 2 Sata 3Gbps ports and 1 Sata 6Gps port. I don't see any issues so fa. And hopefully it will stay that way.

Yes...this is what I don't get you would think it be the other way round...unless Intel had to limit them ports because of overheating but the way it was done caused strain on the links limiting the ports?

Yes, but that limits us to only two [2] SATA ports!  How can I use my computer if I have a small SSD on one SATA 6 port and my DVD burner on the other?  This will not work!  They are saying we may need to wait all the way until April for the trade ins.

I wouldn't over react to this news. I is not something that is going to fail straight away unless you are one of the statistical few that happen to have a board that will fail soon. I think from my understanding is that intel have found the issue and as a precaution are recalling the chipset as a matter of good customer relations.

It's like when Toyota recall a particular model because of some defect, doesn't mean your Toyota will fail.

Gigabyte better work on their memory support for their second board revision because im sure as hell exchanging my current P67A-UD5 for a new board. Thank god for this design flaw so i can freely exchange my board for a new revision.

I wonder if Gigabyte (USA) will send out advance replacement boards? Downtime is unacceptable.
Got a feeling that I will just have to bite the bullet and buy an add on card and hope that they don't drop BIOS updates for the board.
