P43-UD3L board USB problems

P43-UD3L board USB problems
« on: February 22, 2011, 12:12:06 am »
I have the above board.
The problem I'm having is that when using the additonal USB ports (connected via USB or connected via SATA), they tend to freeze and connected components are not even picked up in the device manager.
Happening a lot with my iPod and mobile phone and USB drives.
I've the latest bios installed, along with every other update for the board.
I'm using Win 7 64bit
I have a 430w Nexus PSU.
8gb DDR2 RAM, Logitech USB keyboard
Belkin 2.1 USB Bluetooth adapter
HP 5160 Printer
Zyxel Homeplugs
I've always had the same equipment in various guises and sometimes it does work and sometimes it doesn't.
I didn't have the original utilities disc when I got the board but loaded the last set of intel drivers from the Gigabyte site.
Can anyone shed any light?

The CPU is an E6400 clocked at 2.6ghz, one year old.
The AGP card is a new ATi HD 4770 only 7 months old and use( Searched hard and low to find one....)
I have 2 Samsung SH-S223F DVD-RW drives.
One Belkin USB hub.
One 3.5" front bay multicard reader.
The latter 2 connected internally via USB hubs.
I've taken out all these peripherals and got the system down to a bare state and it was still the same.
Disconnected front ports and still the same.
Checked BIOS settings and even tried equipment I was trying to connect with my Laptop and it functioned fine.
The rear board ports seem to function better than the additional ports though.
Hope that helps.

eeer, in my first post I mentioned it was the Nexus VALUE 430w PSU. http://www.nexustek.nl/NXS-Nexus-VALUE-430-silent-power-supply-80plus-430watt.htm
It too was new, no more than seven months old now.
I got this after a 500w Ezcool noisy unit.
It runs well and I still had the issue with that old 500w unit.

Yes my bad. Sorry I must have missed the original in the list.

Even though it's ok it is a bit on the low side and actually only outputs only 395W on the 12v line. I am not sure that this is your problem but personally I wouldn't be happy running the system on that little available power. Even Gigabyte recommends 500W min PSU.

Apart from that I can't see any other obvious problems. As long as the BIOS is the latest and the drivers are up to date the only other thing is to do a re-install of the OS.

Ok Dark Mantis, Thanks for your reply.
I was thinking that too, but I'd done that originally when I setup Win7.
The recent Service Pack hasn't made any difference either.
I'd also set the BIOS settings to default as I had a BSOD problem for some reason.
The system runs well, NO BSOD's and is otherwise fault free.
I mentioned I don't have the original utility disc/s, is there anything on them that would of helped in installation which I can't get from the Website?

No everything  required is available for download from either the normal drivers page:

http://uk.gigabyte.com/support-downloads/download-center.aspx?kw=P43-UD3L&ck=

or the Utilities page:

http://www.gigabyte.com/support-downloads/utility.aspx

You mention that you set the BIOS to default. By that I take it that you meant the Optimised BIOS defaults not the Failsafe defaults.

Yes, I believe it was the Optimised BIOS defaults.
The reason why was that for some reason, I was getting BSOD's and that wast the only thing that stopped them.
As I stated, I mildly OC the CPU and it's been stable since.
W Index score comes up at 5.8, HDD giving it the low score.
I think that if anything, I have some sort of conflict when I insert the printer, most of the problems show up when it's connected.
I can't do a reinstall yet, but hope that'll sort it when I do.

Don't take much notice of the Windows Experience Index as it is nothing much more than a joke. It is impossible to get more than 5.9 score if you have a magnetic drive. Even a RAID0 array will score 5.9, only an SSD will allow the score to be higher.

Possibly your printer drivers might be to blame, especaillly if it is an older model.

Hmm. Maybe I'll try an update and reinstall on the printer and see if that helps.

I also have a similar issue. About 50% of the time when I wake the computer from sleep using the keyboard (esc key), both the USB keyboard and mouse will stop working. If I use the mouse to wake the machine it is a sure bet this will happen. The keyboard and mouse are dell branded. Dell multimedia keyboard and plane Jane 3 button scroll wheel optical mouse. I have a 650 or 700W Cooler Master PS running the system and am using the rear ports on the machine. This seems to lock up all the USB ports when it occurs.

All the latest drivers, Win7 64 and a netgear Wireless b/g/n usb adapter connected.
