Hi Soar,

They are some huge fans! I think if I put a couple of those on a case I would have to bolt it down to the desktop first or it would soar away on it's own. ;D

Besides when I make my case I am planning watercooling I think.

Puhleeeze! You think such a punny fan would be able to make your PC fly? If you're doing it, you gotta do it right!

Here's one that should do the job ;D

Now that's a proper 200mm fan! You better have some good headphones, though ::).

BTW,

That thing looks more like a jet engine!  Could probably land on the moon with it, no space ship needed!

Hey, what part of Poland do you reside?  Years ago I worked in Gdańsk!  Beautiful city, beautiful people!

Funnily enough, that's exactly where I'm living now. Originally I'm from Warsaw but moved here to attend the university here. Figured it's time to try something new ;D. Actually, I have some family here so I knew the city somewhat before moving. Let me tell it's a lot better on travel time than the capital and nothing can beat being like 3km from the sea :).

I guess I ought to see the States someday soon :P. I have one friend near Chicago I'd love to see face to face finally.

Whoops,  so sorry DM.  Didn't mean to stray so far off topic!

Back to the main topic:  Having fun with this new GA-P67A-UD3-B3!

So far, I am extremely happy to report that everything is working flawlessly!  No start up issues.  No weird noises.  No BSOD's.  No RAM issues.  Runs at cooler than normal temps.  The rig is just fast as lightening and begging to be overclocked!

But before going into Realm of Overclocking, I am trying to make an educated decision on what to use for a program/storage HDD drive...[at this point, I only have the Crucial C300 for the OS and the basic programs].

I keep hearing lots of good news about these Samsung F3/F4 spin drives.

What is all the hoopla over these drives and are they better than the Western Digital Black Editions?

What would you suggest I use for the programs and some storage?  Remember, I only have one more SATA 3 port with 6gb's left on this awesome motherboard so I would like to make an excellent choice!

Please give me some good ideas people!

Hi Soar

Well the Samsung F3s are good drives, I haven't tried the F4 so I don't know how that measures up. The Western Digital Blacks are normally quite good to but I wouldn't take too much notice of the SATA3 rating as it really doesn't seem to make hardly any difference on these magnetic drives. I would just be inclined to go for whichever is the best buy. picked up a Samsung F3 1 TB a few weeks ago and it has been performing excellently.

Ok, one more question:

Will I see a big difference between 5400 rpm's and 7200 rpm's?

Please remember, this is for my programs and storage, not the OS.

I would say yes and even though it's not so important for storage drives I would still go for the faster drive myself. Don't worry about all these "green" drives not that there is anything wrong with them for backups/storage but I feel that they are just a way of the manufacturer getting on the "save the planet" bandwagon. They often drop the speed of these drives as a way of paying lipservice to this so called efficiency. ::)

DM,

Ok, thanks!  I'm looking for a good deal on the 7200 rpm's drive.  I know there are lots of good deals, now I must make a decision on which one.

I think I'll stick with the Western Digital Cavier Black.  They've always worked well for me in the past.

Hi Soar

I must admit I always used to go for the WD Blacks but I needed a storage drive a couple of months ago and so I thought I would try these Samsung F3  drives out. To be fair it has been excellent so far and the price was good. I paid £30ish for a 1 TB so good deal.

I have one, too. Heard they were good, bought a 500GB version and so far I'm happy with it. Actually, I'm thinking about getting a 1TB one and use the 500GB for system and some other software. I know SSD are best for this but they're way too expensive for me atm.
