GA-Z68X-UD7-B3 Ram choices?

I'm out of my depth with memory can anybody help me?

If it helps. This is the rest of my spec:


Intel Core i7 2600K - 3.4GHz.
2 X EVGA GeForce GTX 580 3072MB
cooler Master real Power pro 1250W PSU.
Western Digital velociraptor 150 GB hard drive
SwiftTech H2O dual 120 mm radiator fan kit

System will be used for games, Photoshop, voice recognition, autostereoscopic 3-D video transcoding hence need for 16 GB of RAM.

Any suggestions of alternative RAM modules not in the list, but available in the UK would be much appreciated.

G.SKILL Ripjaws X is problem free with SB boards. 4 x 4GB on my P67-UD7 and they works great, no double, triple etc. boot loops, no failed OC no anything. I use 2 kits of these:

Personally of the ones you've listed I would go for the Mushkin as they are the epitomy of quality memory but I have Corsair Vengeance in mine  and they are reasonably priced while working error free and fast.

G.SKILL Ripjaws X is problem free with SB boards. 4 x 4GB on my P67-UD7 and they works great, no double, triple etc. boot loops, no failed OC no anything. I use 2 kits of these:

thanks for that suggestion, it makes a lot of difference If somebody is using it and recommending it. I've noticed that there doesn't seem to be a lot of choice,If any, dualchannel DDR 3 2133MHz kits in 8 GB (2 x 4 GB) , I wonder why, does anybody know?

Most likely b/c with SB you wont see performance increase with 1600+ in real life.
Benchmarks are different thing. 2x2GB overclocks better.
And by Intel spec Vddr is 1.57V max. I guess it's not easy to get 2333 with good timings with anything below 1.65V let alone in 4GB sticks. That will put a lot of stress on the IMC.
Just some thoughts.

Yikes stress doesn't sound good even though I don't usually Overclock hardware until the last year of its life, but even so that sounds a good enough reason for me the switching to 1600 MHz. so 50% reduction in price for what would you say is the percentage drop going for the 1600MHz ? anyone else concur with 1600 MHz as opposed to 2133 MHz?

  I have 24Gb of Mushkin Madness in my Editing rig and from the install the Memory hasn't given me any problems......The Ridgeback is also compatible with MIPS newish 6 dimm water block saving big bucks by not having to buy the Mips memory dimm clamps as they already carry a female thread in the top of the Ridgeback spreader.......OCZ is also not to shabby at all.

I don't know that I would agree with you there Allan about OCZ. It used to manufacture good quality memory but in these last couple of years or so they seem to have gone down hill quality wise. Their SSDs are good but the memory I wouldn't have in my machine. Just take a look through the forum for substantiation.

 Something else to read up on......come to think of it, I have 6 FLEX II DDR2 9600 Memory Modules to recycle through Flea bay that use to fly on both X38 and X48 platforms......Are they still sort after?

I would think there is a solid second hand market for the DDR2 modules still as the price of brand new ones has gone up since DDR3 became the mainstream. So anyone wanting to upgrade their memory would look to the second user market I am sure.

if you guys can confirm the drop from 2133 MHz down to 1600 MHz dualchannel DDR 3 will suffice, how good are these new copper heatsink rams look to you on timings , voltage etc? I like the fact that there is a water cooling kit as well as the copper heatsink design. out of the three which one would you go for with my signature setup and of course the gigabyte board? is very lower voltage at stock timings better?

Hi I can assure you that unless you want to do some extreme overclocking the 1600 memory will be quite adequate. I am using 1600 mhz Corsair Dominators in my board at the moment and you wouldn't be able to tell the difference apart from benchmarks.

The RAM coolers that you show are very nice but again unless you are planning to push the memory to the limit with overclocking it you really shouldn't need them. Memory doesn't get that hot under normal circumstances and most of the time the RAM coolers are fitted more for show than anything else.
