Reg: GA-EX58-EXTREME Memory Module
« on: September 01, 2011, 07:18:28 am »
Hi!!!

I'm absolutely new here so please grant me this opportunity to thank you all here for making things lil simpler for new members like me.
I have purchased the Gigabyte GA-EX58-EXTREME Mother Board almost 2 years ago.
Was thinking of changing the RAM modules. I have Corsair XMS3 Platinum Series 1333Mhz. 3 * 2 Gig.

The New Corsair Vengeance is available at cheaper rates and so was planning to buy them.
Model No: Vengeance™ — 12GB Triple Channel DDR3 Memory Kit (CMZ12GX3M3A1600C9)

So I need your help and advice about these primarily being compatible with GA-EX58-EXTREME?

I will give the current config that I have.
CM Stacker 832
CM V8
Corsair HX1000
GA EX58 Extreme
Intel Core i7-920
nVidia GTX 295 + nVidia GTX 260
Corsair XMS3 Platinum Series 3 * 2 Gig.
5 * 2 TB (Seagate)
3 * 1 TB (Seagate)
1 * 60 (OCZ)
Logitech Z 5500
LG 47".

Can you please let me know if  Corsair Vengeance RAM is compatible and I can simply swap the modules?
Awaiting your reply...

Thanks.

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

There is no reason why the Corsair Vengeance memory shouldn't work fine with your motherboard. I have the GA-X58A-UD7 and I have tried them with mine and it works fine. I must say I doin't normally use them in it though as I have Corsair Dominators but the Vengeance is good memory at a good price so I can't blame you. I just bought another 16GB for my machine I use for reviews and it cost me well under a hundred pounds.

But then... The native speed supported by the board is 1333Mhz...
Whereas the Vengeance have a native speed of 1600Mhz...

I'm sure when I plug them in, they'll automatically clock to 1333Mhz...

Am I right?

More than likely you are right because there is no official 1600 Mhz speed as ratified by JEDEC the governing body. 1333 is the highest official speed so anything over that is an overclock. The Vengeance comes with a XMP attached so you can just enable that in the BIOS or manually set the timings and voltage.

So do you opine that I go for a 12 Gig Kit?
3 * 4 Gig kit?

You are sure that the RAM Module which I have shared with you is compatible...

It is your decision but the same modules used in your kit work fine in my motherboard whcih is very similar to yours. I can say no more. Have you checked on Corsairs website  for their QVL for the memory and seen if it says it is compatible ?

Always the best idea as a first step and if they say it has been tested and compatible you should be safe. You would be surprised how many people skip this step and use a "lottery" approach!

Well it sounds like it will be a very nice system when built. I would suggest putting some clamps on the hoses of the Corsair H100 as sometimes these can leak if pulled on or something like that.

If you want to save a bit of money too you could really do without the sound card as the built in sound on the Assassin is very good anyway.

I was thinking of the same. As of right now the Z 5500 is simply oustanding on the Extreme. The Assassin has even better as its got onboard support for Dolby Live. EAX 5.0 and comes Creative X-Fi. Amazing... However the Asus Xonar DX2 is supporting over 5 Dolby variations & 3 in DTS. Downside is its only EAX 2.0 capable... Somehow I do enjoy a lot of Music... Trance mostly...

Still gathering the cash mate... So it might take a while though...

Sir, had one a question. Asus has come up with Asus Rampage III Exreme Edition (R.O.G) - supports 48Gig in 6 DIMM's...
Is Assassin planning a Rev 2.0 to catch up to them or something...

Personally I think that it is highly likely that the second coming of the Assassin will be arriving shortly. Don't get drawn into the  "how much memory can I stuff into the board" though as there is nothing to gain from a gaming point of view and if anything it might even slow it down a touch. Unless you are using lots of multitasking or huge files being manipulated it is just a waste to have anything over about 12GB.

True Sir...

I dont deny that at all...
I was told even the same before, however a friend of mine disagrees.
I told him the same why would I need so much of memory as I dont perform apart from gaming...

I have dedicated memory of 4 GB as Video (GTX 295 & GTX 260).. 1792 x 2.

You think I should wait for the Assassin 2...

To be honest memory of 6GB would be plenty for just about all games that are avilable now. Even 12GB is overkill really but if you want to be able to brag then fair enough! ;)

Your friend doesn't know what he is talking about if he thinks you need massive amounts of RAM to play games. In fact as I mentioned before it can even slow the system down a bit.

Finally...
I got my HAF X today...

To my utter disappointment the case is damaged...
Transport system... Man i'm so annoyed at the dealer.
I go the case delivered at my house and this is what has happened...

I called him and literally fired him.
He mentioned, get it at my shop and he'll change it right away.

He has one more, however I have a gut feling that it'll be damaged...

Really annoying...
