GA-P67A-UD4-B3 Memory issues

I am having a few issues with my motherbpoard GA-P67A-UD4-B3 .Firstly the bios will not not allow my memory to run a full 1600mhz speed, when the machine reboots i get an error saying that i have memory issues and it forces the memory to run at 1066mhz.

Also the motherboard will only boot if i have memory modules both 4gb running at 1600mhz in slots 3 and 4. If i put the same modules in 1 and 2 the mother board turns on the leds lights flash and then it recycles.

The only memory i can get to run in slots 1 and 2 is a 2gb stick which runs at 1066mhz

Have you overclocking your CPU or Ram?

Have you make a modifications in BIOS?

Hi sure:

I5 2500k @4.5

GA-P67A-UD4-B3

16gb corsair vengence LP 1600mhz ram (only 4gb works!)

2x 4gb sticks are these

Bios is the latest version, well the latest version on the @bios utility.  They only way i can get my pc to boot with the 8gb of corsair ram is by having them in slots 3 and 4. I have tested all the memory individually in slots 1-4 and it only posts when 3 and 4 are populated. However if i put a 2gb stick of 1330mhz ram in slot 1 the pc can boot.

I have enable dual mem chanel in the bios so it runs at 1600mhz but after a reboot it complain there is an overclocking isssue and forces my ram to run at 1300mhz

Firstly I am assuming that you are in fact running a 64 bit version of Windows to allow you to see all the memory above 4GB ?

The next thing is that you have two different kits of memory there. Now I know one is designated Blue and the other not but are you 100% sure that is the only difference between them as it seems awfully funny that they should use two different part numbers etc if they are identical ?

Yup running 64bit. They are definalty the same, they have the same clock speeds, they just have a difference heat spreader.

It is a good quality PSU and should be fine but of course that doesn't mean it can't go faulty.

It would be worth checking for bent pins on the CPU socket also. Follow these instructions EXACTLY please.

Take all the usual anti-static precautions.

Very carefully remove the heatsink and fan. Probably a slight twisting motion is best to release the two as the thermal paste can act like a glue.

Once off remove the CPU taking extreme care both physically and electrically(static) and place somewhere safe.

Make sure that the lighting is very good and even.

Now scrutinise the socket for any pins that are out of alignment, even slightly.
If in any doubt whatsoever take a couple of macro (close up) photos of the socket and post them on here for us to check.

Also look at the bottom of the CPU at the lands (little copper circles) and make sure that there is a mark in each somewhere near the centre.
If there are any missing marks or any of the pins are obviously bent then that is your problem.

Before refitting the CPU clean off all residue of the old thermal paste and the same on the heatsink and then apply a small amount (about the size of a grain of rice) to the centre of the CPU once it is inserted in the socket.

There are definitely  a couple there that are suspect but becuase of the poor lighting/pictures I cannot tell for sure but they showed up in three of the pictures so I would like to see some more please. Try and get then taken in front of a god light source like a window and without the flash as it causes glare. The pictures could really be much closer/clearer as well.

I agree Dark Mantis comments...

In the pictures, I notice that the right side of the image (socket) is much less clear.
Probably you move very little (trembling perhaps). 

In addition, the pins (right side of the socket) give the impress of being all down, not straight up.

I suggest you support the elbow (or elbows) on the edge of the tower.

I have taken some more pics let me know if they are any better, i have used natural light and my decent camera so hopefully they are better. If there are bent pins can they be fixed?

In the pic SAM_2616.jpg on the bottom middle, one looks suspect there..

Can you get a better pic of that area? Looks like only 1 bent pin that I can see.

Could it be that the pin is just folded?

Perhaps the correct gently.
Succeed the first time, otherwise the risk of broken pin.
