Broken pin on motherboard :/

Broken pin on motherboard :/
« on: February 09, 2012, 02:36:25 pm »
Hi,

I recently purchased a gigabyte motherboard from scan.co.uk and the pcie x16 slot did not work (the pcie x8 slot did work).

I sent it back to them and they rejected the RMA and said it was my fault because 1 pin had been bent. This confused me as i had been very careful with everything i did as i had paid 750 pounds for a brand new pc which is more than i have ever spent before.

when the motherboard came back today i looked at it and there is one pin on the socket that has broken.

Is there a way i could go through gigabyte to get this fixed?

Here are a couple of pictures showing you guys the problem.

Motherboard: z68x-ud3-b3
Processor: intel core i5 2500k
Ram: Corsair Vengenence 2x4GB 1600mhz
GPU: XFX 6870

Kind Regards,
Ben Ward

Hi Ben and welcome.

TRy contacting the RMA section and I am sure they will sort it out for you. I am surprised that Scan were unwilling to help you out though. Gigabyte is normally very good for this and do replacements on a purely one off basis. It is not officially covered by the warranty.  ;)

Good luck and let us know how you get on please.

First of all i would like to apologies for reviving an old thread.

Soon after i last posted one of the technical guys at my work carefully managed to pull the pin out. (I was stupid and just wanted to get my new PC up and running).

All was working after that. But i have been experiencing a lot of problems with my computer since then. I have had so many blue screens and issues with the display. But after going through everything with my graphics card vendor and replacing the graphics card the issues still occurs. I cant find anything on the internet that can help me. Everything is stock.

So after doing tons of research and tons of technical support with the vendors of my other hardware it all seems to come back to my motherboard.
Obviously i have done all the firmware and driver updates for everything (including previous ones on drivers) but no cigar.

Basically what im asking is do you think gigabyte will accept a return and potentially fix the problem for me. Again i dont mind paying its just getting to the point now where i have had enough and just want it sorting. I know this is a long shot but any advice would be great. Apologise for not getting back sooner.

Regards, Ben

Hi Ben,

If there is a problem with your motherboard I am sure that Gigabyte will do their utmost to put it right as it is still under warranty. Firstly though you need to decide what the fault is, then you can approach Gigabyte and ask for a repair. I doubt that it has anything to do with the original bent pin though as it has been working since then.

If you want to use the help of the members on this forum to pin down the fault then please do so.
