Hi folks,
I have a Realtek GBE onboard lan on my Gigabyte B75 motherboard. when using a short cable (less than 3 meters) and connecting to Virgin Superhub, it connects at 1GB. when using a 50MB cable which is what I need since I'm that long away from hub, it will only connect at 100mbps. But if I unplug the cable from the pc and plug into my lenovo laptop, the laptop happily connects at 1Gbp.
I've tried all the settings I can think of on the LAN including updated drivers from Gigabyte, from Realtek, etc. I can't get this LAN to work at gigabit ethernet. the fact that the lenovo does work indicates the cable is not faulty.
the only thing I can think of is that the onboard LAN is somehow detecting the cable is very long and therefore using lower speed. Any suggestions on how I can proceed? Do I need to buy a new PCI card for this mobo? or shoudl I look at a Gigabit switch (whcih may be a better idea and give me expansion)
thanks,
VJC
