« on: October 01, 2012, 07:10:52 am »
Computer is getting old and want to upgrade. What would be the modern equivalent of the above board? Also, would I have to replace my amd dual core processor if I do upgrade?

It would be easier to offer advice if you could post back with details of your CPU and budget for a new board/system.
Remember, when all else fails a cup of tea and a good swear will often help! It won't solve the problem but it will make you feel better.

Like absic said ,tell us more information about what you have now or what you want for the future.
What is the main purpose of your system ?!

Will be running windows 7 professional
6 gb ram
Nvidia GeForce 560ti
And current processor which I'm debating if I should upgrade or not is: amd Athalon 64 x2 dual core processor.

I'd be using the rig mostly for gaming.

6 Gigs means 3 sticks ?If yes i wouldn t advice it ,you will loose dual channel advantage.

For gaming you can also try the new FM 2 AMD platform.
It allows you to install your video card .The 5600K and 5800K APU-s have enough CPU juice for the GeForce 560ti.
Keep in mind that the board for FM 2 are not in a perfect state needing tweaks with future BIOS releases.

For the AM3+ i would get a 970A-UD3 (or a 990XA-UD3 for proper SLI ) and a FX 4170 CPU ,unless you are wiling to wait for the new AM3+ CPU-s that should arrive at the end of this month.
