Hi, I have e-mailed AMD and they have approved an RMA on my CPU but they will not give me a different model CPU. Does anyone know if these CPU's(Phenom II 955 Black Edition 3.2GHZ Quad Core) work with this MOBO( GA-890GPA-UD3H ) and the 8 GB's of RAM(4x2GB)(Corsair XMS3 CMX8GX3M4A1333C9 1333MHZ). I am using it now with just 2x2 GB's of this RAM in Slots 1 and 3. I want to use all 4 sticks that I purchased. Thanks all for the replies.

Yes the CPU is supported from BIOS version FB on your revision motherboard.

You will need to set the timings and voltage manually if you are filling all the slots as it puts the memory controller under more pressure.

Just to comfort Barracuda and not to contradict Dark Mantis, when I put the same cpu and same memory(4-2gig strips) on this same board I set everthing (speed, timeings and voltage) to auto and it booted right up like a champ. 1333 mhz, 9-9-9-24. As is advised at the top of this forum I wouldn't run it @ 1600 because of a limitation in the cpu mc's. Oh yeah there is also a setting in bios under M.I.T.-DRAM SETTING-DCTs MODE for ganged or unganged. JUst set that to unganged and everything else to auto and you should be fine.

No stewman you are quite right. Sometimes you get lucky and it will work from the start with auto settings but quite often it will not accept these and it will have to be configured manually.

Thanks for all the replies, but i noticed all the Mobo's that you refer to are REV 2.0. I have the REV 1.0. Is there another CPU produced by AMD that will work with this Revision on this Mobo or will a new  AMD phenom II X4 955 3.2 GHZ black edition processor work with this mobo and allow me to use the 4 sticks of 2gb ram that i purchased originally for it. Thanks All for the help.

Hi as long as the BIOS is F7 or later then the 955 will work on your motherboard as should 4x2 Gig sticks of RAM.

I know this sounds redundant, but what you are saying is that if I send my current processor(the one that will not work now with 4x2GB of RAM because of the memory channels 1 & 2 and my faulty CPU) for replacement of an exact same kind then I should be able to use all 4 sticks of RAM with my current MOBO REV 1.0.  This does not seem right according to the previous posts but if the one i have is faulty then i understand. Please someone clarify for me before i send my only processor to AMD and have to live without a computer until they send a new CPU. Thanks to all.

Hi Again,

not sure what revision version your motherboard is but the GA-890GPA-UD3H motherboard, according to the specs found here: http://www.gigabyte.com/support-downloads/download-center.aspx?kw=GA-890GPA-UD3H will take upto 16GB of RAM and all three versions ofthe Phenom ii 955 Processor.

Hi Ripshod,

When you get your new CPU send the dodgy one to AMD. They will check it out and if it proves to be faulty they should replace it.

As a matter of interest, have you been running your RAM at 1600MHz?

Sorry about the delay absic. I'm not too bothered about RMAing the old processor, I think I damaged it myself while using it in a GA-M56S-S3 board and then clocking the RAM to 1600 on the new board (890FXA-UD5), The proc was fine before I did this.
I'll keep it as a single channel spare ;)

I would RMA the processor anyway. If it is faulty you will get a brand new one that, if you don't want you can either sell on and recover some of your costs or you can send to me. I will find a good use for it!!  ;)

Hi Ripshod I RMA a processor to AMD and they replaced it and i had  broken of one of the pins trying to install it on the mobo, they also told me to send it by courier which is quiet expensive so i just sent it by air mail, so  as absic said give it a go.

I'm trying to register at AMD site for support (service request) but my password gets rejected. What the heck is a 'special character'?

A special character is anything that isn't alphanumerical in nature. A space or any puctuation marks etc.
