I agree, sounds like it might be a faulty CPU.   Have you ever used it, or can you test it on another board to be sure?

One last thing to try before RMA'n anything would be an extended Clear CMOS.   Take the CMOS battery out and switch the PSU off on the back of the PSU, or unplug it from the wall.   Then press and hold the power on button on the board or case for one minute.  Then leave it like that for 20 minutes or do and put the battery back in and reconnect the PSU and then see if it will start or not.

Hi
Just thought I'd let you know I eventually had a new i7 980x due to the other 980x CPU being faulty, it took the best part of a month with Overclockers UK but I installed it this morning and the system booted first time on the F4 BIOS. Thanks again for the advice and help you gave on the problems that I was having  I've  built a few systems in my time I never had a problem like that thanks again.

Any CPU can be faulty regardless of whether it is a high end chip or not. There have been a few faulty Intel CPUs in the past on the forum but considering the number sold they are few and far between.

Yes, it's VERY rare to see a DOA CPU, compared to say a DOA Motherboard or set of memory.

Very few and far between for sure!

Hi
Just thought I would ask you what you think of SSD I was thinking of installing one a Crucial Real SSD C300 128GB 2.5" SATA 6GB into the PC so where do you think is the best place to plug them into. I was thinking of plugging it into the Marvel l 6GB side of things and cloning the operating system to the SSD and making it the boot drive. Had a look through the forums and there seems a few problems with them so I’d thought I’d ask before taking the plunge the SSD info is below thanks.

Capacity: 128GB
- Cache: 128MB
- Controller: Marvell 88SS9174
- Read: Up to 355MB/sec
- Write: Up to 140MB/sec
- NAND Flash: Multi-Level Cell (MLC)
- Interface: SATA 6Gbps
- Low Power Consumption
- Shock Resistant
- TRIM Support (Requires Windows 7)

I really wouldn't advise using the Marvell controlled ports for your nice new SSD. They don't transfer the TRIM commands for the continued  health of the SSD for a start. They are also no faster and often slower than the Intel ICH10R controlled ports that will pass on the TRIM.
