I hope you can write and play a top ten single and then you can buy Gigabyte, AMD, and GSKILL, helping them all to do a much better job!

If I could do that I wouldn't spend so much time helping people on this forum!!  :'(

If you want to check out some of what I do and find out why I'm not a big star check out MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/robtunbridge
There's a few tracks and a couple of videos there. Sorry , but I don't provide earplugs!!  :P

Rob, you have an excellent voice and lyrics.  I am surprised I haven't heard more of you!  I listened to Who You Are on MySpace and for me, that was an excellent work!

Keep up the great work and never, never give up!

Yes I agree with Soar  ;) I am just surprised that you haven't been "found" yet. Maybe you need to have your own website as well as using the MySpace platform. More publicity is the key I am sure. Keep it up mate  8)

Great idea DM!  Perhaps a little more exposure to the general public would garnish a much larger following!

Keep up the great work Absic!

BTW, I received my GA 890XA-UD3 a couple of days ago.  I am so excited to begin work on this new 6 core rig!  Thanks again for your excellent advice.  I know this rig will do well when I am done.

I did notice it is the version 1, so I am kinda happy about that too.

After carefully reading the QVL list I wanted to avoid the pain and frustration I experienced while building my new i5-750 rig.  So I decided to go with the G.SKILL RAM they listed in the 1600Mhz category.

Here is what I purchased yesterday from New Egg: G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-4GBNQ

I chose this RAM because:

1. It is on the QVL list from Gigabyte for my specific MB
2. It is rated at 1.5 volts [I remembered Absic's advice about choosing a RAM that is 1.5volts].

To be 100%  honest with you, I was also considering the ADATA RAM listed on the QVL.  A-DATA Gaming Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model AX3U1600GB2G9-2G.  It was about the same exact price as the G.SKIL I purchased.

Many AMD builders are using ADATA rather than G.SKIL.  Not sure why, but many of the reviews are stating it is working well with Gigabyte boards.

Have you any suggestions for the CPU cooler?  I was thinking about purchasing another Corsair H50, but now I read several people criticizing this cooler in various forums.  I like it for a number of reasons:

1. Weight [much lighter than the massive air-coolers, thus less stress on the MB].
2. Price [when on sale ($59), it was just a tad more than some of the upper end coolers].
3. Effectiveness [I thought it was much more effective than most air-coolers but in reality, it is not] (see chart).
4. Maintenance [absolutely zero maintenance (unless you want to include the occasional blowing out of dust on the radiator)].

Overall, I am still very happy with it.

Regarding the push/pull with two fans, I chose to go with two Scythe "F" fans and all is good.

I do have a brand new, never before used CoolMaster Hype 212 Plus [I bought it thinking to use it in the i5-750 rig but changed my mind].  This CPU cooler has been receiving phenomenal reviews, was priced less than half the Corsair H50, and doesn't seem toooooooooooooooooooooooooo big to use.  It too can run with the dual fan push/pull configuration.

Hyper 212 Plus won the 10/10 review from Maximum PC and on New Egg it is one of the hottest sellers.

Please share any good advice you may have about any good CPU cooler!  I am open to anything!

Have a good day guys!

Well the newer Corsair H70 has been getting some very good reviews, maybe this would be a good choice.

But to my mind you can't beat the Noctua range. I have the Noctua NH-D14 so I'm going to be in favour of this. Yes, it's big but, boy is it efficient & almost silent, however the H70 did seem to beat it in one review I read. http://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=25823

Thanks Absic!  I will do my homework on both!

Keep up the awesome singing and playing!

EDIT: The Noctua NH-D14 is absolutely off the charts with the great specs and reviews.  I've never seen a CPU cooler that big with so many excellent reviews and stats.  It is a little too big for what I was looking for.  The H70 also looks very promising Absic.  Thanks for the insights and info!

I will keep my eyes open!

LOL!  No, you really do have an excellent voice and I know you are doing quite well with hitting your keys and notes.  Many people have the correct key and notes, but their voice is lacking in beauty and passion.  Not you.  You have it all : Keys/notes, beauty, and passion.

I just think you need a little more exposure.  Have you tried singing at some local clubs yet?  And do you have a band?

Dave, they are both excellent people to have as friends and I really like their sense of humor too.  They keep the technical side of things funny and enjoyable.  I wish there were more people like them!

Some of the other forums I often visit have excellent knowledge and understanding but sadly lack in kindness, clean humor, and fun.  These two are rich in these areas as well as the technical knowledge and expertise.  That's why I choose to hang out here now.

Dave, are you thinking of going with the 1055T or the 1090 or something comparable?

Have a good one!

Hey Dave,

that free drink you offered wasn't really free at all was it? I mean, you didn't offer to fly me up to Scotland so that I can get it. Typical Scotsman, make an offer that you know can't be accepted!!

If you're going for Hex core I'm moving to the back of beyond and disconnecting from the internet!!!  :o

Only kidding. To be honest, I don't think there is any reason for you to change just yet. You can move your current rig into the HAF (nice tower by the way) and do what all Scotsmen do best, lock your sporran and keep your money firmly where it is. You would be better off spending your pennies, if that is what you want to do, on an SSD for your main system drive or on extra storage, you can never have enough disk space with video!

Hi All - thanks for providing such swift and specific advice - it really helps!

I'm looking to build a new rig - I have only done this a couple times before ... and if you come at this after 3 years the whole dang tech has changed and you have to relearn it all!  I have a noob question on memory.  I've read the threads about being careful on the types/speeds.  I was thinking of using the GA-890FXA-UD5 with a Phenom x6

Having scanned the QV memory sheets off the website, if I can't find *exactly* the same product codes at my stores (UK), does it make that much difference if I still pick, say, something that matches "DDR3 PC3-10666 (1333) Non-ECC Unbuffered, 1.50V"?  I think I get that it should be the 1.5V versions as higher than that seems to cause issues, but for someone who isn't that familiar with the "best" manufacturers, or ones that are not listed in the QV sheet .. its a bit puzzling.

For example, earlier in this thread I saw http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/4GB-%282x2GB%29-Corsair-XMS3-Classic-DDR3-PC3-10666-%281333%29-Non-ECC-Unbuffered-CAS-9-9-9-24-150V as a suggested option.  Looks good to me too, but that product code (TW3X4G1333C9A ) isn't in the MoBo accredited list (from http://www.gigabyte.com.au/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3519#memory%20support%20list) so... will it still be OK?

I'll not be OCing this system and stability is pretty much tops for me.

Thanks for any advice.

Mike

Hi Mike,

you are quite right that getting hold of RAM from the QVL can be quite  a task. The Corsair RAM available at Scan UK, in the link you provided, although not on the QVL will work OK and I have used it myself many times with the Phenom ii X4's and X6 CPU's without a problem and on many different Gigabyte AMD boards. I have also used it with AM3 CPU's without a problem, for anyone else who might be wondering.  ;)

The principal of keeping RAM to 1333 MHz and 1.5V is a good one to follow and I believe that if you bear these parameters in mind, when buying your RAM, you shouldn't encounter too many problems.

Hope this helps
