p67-ud5 wont boot

I have a p67 ud5 rev B and have been having massive problems with it here is my system

mobo: p67-ud5
bios: tried em all
cpu: i7 2600k
ram: Kingston 2x2g 1600
psu: 700w coolmax

I have flashed the bios, reset the cmos, removed all the hardware (chip,vga,etc) and put it back in, tested the psu(mutlimeter and paperclip) and still have the same problem. I can get the system to boot, but after a day or two it no longer will boot then i repeat all of the above steps with random(at best) results.  When there is no boot it halts at the cpu in the boot process which means blue cpu led is on and there are no beeps from the mobo speaker. please advise

Please describe entirely your system : exact model about video card, PSU, Ram.
Please give a web link for each.

Have you one or two video cards?

Did you check the battery on the motherboard?

I wonder if it would be better to just disconnect all the hardware.
And to a minimum mounting hardware on a cardboard box cut to the ground or on a table. Not in the case.

Try with only one memory stick. Not All.
If an error occurs try it in a different slot on the motherboard.

Hi

My first thought when you say that there is no noise at all from the speaker is that you have a piezo electric buzzer and you have it in reverse polarity. If I am right make sure that it is indeed on the correct pins and the right way around. You should be getting some beeps out of the system at some stage.

If you have done that and still no help then I think you need to follow these instructions:


The next thing is to remove the motherboard form the case and test it on the workbench.

Make sure that you observe anti-static precautions.

Lay some cardboard or use the motherboard box that is non-conductive on the worktop and remove the motherboard/CPU/heatsink/fan/buzzer/one stick of memory and PSU from the case and put it on the cardboard. Add the keyboard and now I know you haven't got any graphics but try and boot. The system should try and then fail emitting a series of beeps. Please post what sounds it makes.

no i mean by no noise that it does n0t make it far enough in the boot sequence and it is currently sitting on the box  the mobo came in speaker is in the right way and for clarification are you saying i should remove everything from the mobo (heatsink, fan,memory,vga) and try to boot

i should also mention that when i have no boot my mobo acts as if there is no cpu present i.e. if i remove the cpu and try to boot i get the same results:
gd1,gd2,and cpu leds are lit no power to the gpu (fan not running)  is it possible i have a cpu that is faulty and only works sometimes? 

gd1: normal operating conditions led lights up green
gd2: overvoltage led lights up orange
cpu: led lights up blue (indicates a problem with the cpu)

I think that if that is the case you need to take a couple of macro photos of the CPU socket pins so we can check to see if there is any problem there.

Take all the usual anti-static precautions.

Very carefully remove the heatsink and fan. Probably a slight twisting motion is best to release the two as the thermal paste can act like a glue.

Once off remove the CPU taking extreme care both physically and electrically(static) and place somewhere safe.

Make sure that the lighting is very good and even.

Now scrutinise the socket for any pins that are out of alignment, even slightly.
Take a couple of macro (close up) photos of the socket and post them on here for us to check.

Also look at the bottom of the CPU at the lands (little copper circles) and make sure that there is a mark in each somewhere near the centre.
If there are any missing marks or any of the pins are obviously bent then that is your problem.

Before refitting the CPU clean off all residue of the old thermal paste and the same on the heatsink and then apply a small amount (about the size of a grain of rice) to the centre of the CPU once it is inserted in the socket.

If you only have a couple of smaller photos you can usually post them using the "additional options " at the bottom of the posting box when you are formulating your post.
