X58A-UD3R ver2 BIOS problems
« on: August 20, 2010, 06:02:09 pm »
Have been having major problems with this board

With delivery BIOS FA ran and overclocked great except for disappearing RAM 6Gb with 4Gb usable

BIOS FB11 Beta ran very very slow on boot up if it booted at all and couldnt access overclocking options

SO returned to FA

BIOS FB16 Beta exactly the same as FB11 but after a lot of grief and aggro and about 2 hrs it eventually booted , but cannot access OC options.

I had to update BIOS thro @BIOS because i dont have a floppy drive. ANY help or ideas ?????

Hi and welcome to the forum. Do not use @BIOS in Windows it is far to risky. Use Q-Flash in the BIOS instead. If you are unsure on the procedure check out our FAQ section here: http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,2441.0.html

Thanks for the info

Tried this method but still had problems

Managed to get into OC menus tho

Booted OK after some tweaking

Will try it out tomorrow properly

Windows 7 64 bit
X58 udr3 ver2
6Gb Corsair Dominator ddr3 ram
Zotac GTX 480
Asus 8800GT
Core i7 930 with Titan Fenrir cooler
3 HDD's various sizes etc

Returned bios to FA ( original ) cause of problems with FB11 and FB16 bios's
I have tried implimenting them the other way aswell but major boot problems / issues
To boot it takes for ever to even detect the drives then goes into a boot cycle getting slower and slower

I know that you are into overclocking and that's cool but I would reset everything back to the optimised defaults until you have cleared up any problems. Once you're sure that the system is stable you can start playing with the settings.

System runs stable at default with FA bios axcept for the disappearing ram

System runs stable overclocked to 4Ghz with FA bios except for disappearing ram

With FB11 or FB16 bios's the system will not boot or takes a very long time

It is now all at default settings with FA bios and running sweet except only 4Gb is usable out of the 6Gb

If you updated the BIOS now at defaults would it not be stable? I have only seen two reasons for your problem and those are either bent pins on the CPU socket or the BIOS needed updating.

Reset everything to defaults on BIOS FA

Booted to windows OK

Using FLASHQ updated to Fb16 BIOS

If it boots to windows it takes about 10 minutes
If it doesnt boot to windows if BSOD with PAGE ERROR

Once up and running everyrthing is good. 6Gb of ram and performance is good.

Have tried to BOOT 5 times now and 10 mins is the average

Pauses before memory check
Pauses before disc/ide drive ckeck
Pauses before DMA update ? not sure if thats correct
Pauses Before Windows Starting to load screen
Pauses at Windows Starting screen

Once into WIndows it is great.

Non of this happens in FA Bios in default or overclocked
But same happens in Fb11 and Fb16

Have you got quick boot enabled?
Make sure anything that it looks for that you don't have is disabled too. ie drives, floppy, etc
